Frequently Asked Questions
How much does repatriation cost and how long can it take?
The cost of repatriation can vary based on factors such as destination, flight availability, and specific country requirements. Our Price Guide starts at $11,500, with variations due to weight, size, and documentation needs. Generally, international repatriations take about one week, while interstate transfers may take 5-7 days, depending on logistical factors and necessary approvals.
What information is required for the repatriation process?
To facilitate the repatriation process, we require the following details:
- Full name and current location of the deceased
- Passport – This must be physical passport as we will require this throughout the process and must travel with the deceased.
- Contact details of the next of kin
- Information to register death- This includes questions on the Death Registration Application form to lodge with Births, Deaths and Marriages.
- Receiving contact details of two people- This includes Name, Address, Phone and Email.
- Clothes for your loved one to be dressed in.
What documentation do I need for repatriation?
Before repatriation, the death must be registered with the local Registrar of Births, Deaths, and Marriages. Typically, two certified Death Certificates are needed for international repatriation: one for airline documentation, and one for family legal matters. Additional legal requirements may include consular seals or translations, depending on the destination country.
Is embalming required for repatriation?
Embalming is always required for air travel with a deceased person, ensuring preservation and hygiene during transport. This process is crucial.
