One question our Brisbane funeral directors get frequently asked is: how long should it be between a person’s death and their funeral?
Here in Australia, a funeral can occur within a matter of days of someone’s passing, however, at Anton Brown Funerals the last thing we want is for you to feel like you are being rushed when you’re making such arrangements, especially if the person has passed suddenly without warning.
That’s why we will work with each family or individual to plan a fitting farewell for your loved one – in a timeframe that works for you.
In this blog we answer a range of questions about funerals and other events after a loved one has passed away.
How long between death and funeral in Australia?
Typically, in Australia, funerals are held within a week of a person’s passing.
Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, however, we are seeing funerals being pushed out further from the date of death, as some families are waiting for relatives to travel from interstate.
In Australia, most funerals tend to fall on Thursdays and Fridays, but ultimately the scheduled time is dependent on what day the family would like or which is most suitable and convenient.
How long can you delay a funeral?
We would suggest you don’t wait any longer than a month as the body starts to decompose quite quickly.
Are funerals held on weekends in Australia?
Yes, funerals can be held on weekends.
However, if you wish to have a service on a Saturday or Sunday you can expect a surcharge from Cemeteries/Crematoriums and Funeral Directors.
How long after the funeral is cremation?
The cremation usually occurs within a few hours of the funeral or memorial service.
