Anton Brown Funerals has been planning funeral services, burials and cremations in Brisbane and beyond for more than 25 years.
In that time, our compassionate funeral directors have helped to arrange countless farewells that are dignified, and provide a fitting tribute to loved ones.
We also understand that the deceased may have had specific last wishes and we go above and beyond to ensure those are fulfilled.
In this blog we explain more about the funeral services and arrangements we can assist with. Remember, you can reach out to our experienced and approachable Brisbane team by calling (07) 3217 3088 at any time.
Types of Funeral Services
The Brisbane region has numerous cemeteries and crematoriums, and we can assist with arrangements for services at many of these.
For those who do not want a service, we can also help with non-attended burials and cremations.
Cremations Brisbane:
- Chapel service and Cremation
A funeral service can be held in a crematorium chapel prior to cremation. Typically, the bookings for these services are for a 30-minute duration.
These kinds of services can be conducted by:
- A priest if the service is religious,
- A funeral celebrant for a non-religious service, or
- A family member or friend.
Often family and friends of the deceased gather in the nearby condolence lounge after the service. The cremation also occurs after the guests have left the chapel.
- Church Service and Cremation
Many people who wish to have a religious funeral service hold it at a local church or one which is meaningful to the deceased’s family. These services are conducted by a religious leader, such as a parish priest.
Following the service, the hearse travels to the crematorium with the deceased and typically their loved ones go elsewhere for refreshments.

Burials Brisbane:
- Chapel service and burial
A chapel service can be held in cemetery chapels in and around Brisbane. Often these services last for about 30 minutes.
These services can be conducted by:
- A priest if the service is religious,
- A funeral celebrant for a non-religious service, or
- A family member or friend.
Everyone moves to the graveside, normally in the same cemetery, after the service. This is when the final committal takes place.
Sometimes funeral attendees will gather afterwards at the cemetery’s condolence lounge.
- Church service and burial
For people who wish to have a religious service, this can take place at any church you desire. In this instance the service is taken by the parish priest or religious leader.
The hearse and funeral procession would then travel to the cemetery where the person is being buried. Once everyone has arrived to the final place of resting, the committal and burial can occur.
- Graveside service
If you or your loved one does not wish to have a service in a church or chapel, another alternative would be for people to gather for a graveside service.
At Anton Brown Funerals, we have some equipment which we can provide to help personalise this type of service, including a PA system and CD player.

*It is important to note that there are limits to burials in Brisbane’s historic cemeteries, and it may only be possible to be buried with a pre-purchased grave.
