How to Choose Funeral Flowers 

Flowers are a visual expression of our emotions and at a funeral they are often used as a meaningful way to personalise a service and acknowledge the person who has passed away. 

In saying that, funeral flowers can be understated, and you don’t need to spend a significant amount of money on extravagant floral funeral arrangements.

What Colour Flowers for a Funeral?  

The colour of the flowers chosen for a loved ones’ funeral can be a very personal decision – particularly if the deceased was especially fond of one hue. By incorporating a favourite colour or type of flower into floral arrangements, it will act as a visual reminder of the deceased to mourners.  

In our experience, when there is no distinct hue chosen, white arrangements are the most common selection. 

Colours can convey different sentiments, such as:  

• White: Peace and innocence, purity  
• Red: Love, devotion, respect  
• Blue: Sadness, mourning, sympathy or condolences 
• Purple: Sorrow, respect  
• Pink: Innocence and grace 

Traditional Funeral Flowers 

At Anton Brown Funerals, we see arrangements of white Lillies selected frequently. This particular flower is often associated with funerals as they are said to represent the soul being restored to a state of innocence.

How to Choose Funeral Flowers 

We try to make the process of selecting and organising funeral flowers as stress free for families as possible, and we have one trusted and talented florist who we engage regularly.  

Our team members will help you choose the most appropriate type of arrangement, colours and flowers by discussing your loved ones wishes, your wishes and by sharing images of previous funeral flowers.  

Floral arrangements include: 

• Casket sprays: An arrangement on top of the coffin. Alternatively, you could select a single stem, a few flowers, or petals to be displayed on the coffin.  
• Decorative flowers for the service: This could include flowers on the pews, on the alter or standing arrangements around the church.  
• Wreaths: Wreaths can be created in varying shapes and sizes and are often placed near the coffin. 

Once you have made some decisions about the types of arrangements you’d like at the service, we will place the order with our florist.  

On the day of the funeral, the flowers are delivered to our Woolloongabba funeral home and one of our team members will ensure they make it to the venue safely.

Expert Tip: It is not necessary for funeral guests to bring flowers to the service and some families may prefer them to be sent to a specific address on a different day.
