How do I find out where someone is buried in Brisbane?
The Brisbane City Council has a dedicated online search tool to locate people’s final resting places in the city’s cemeteries and crematoria.
Here’s how it works:
- Head to the website > www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/community-and-safety/community-support/cemeteries/grave-location-search
- Click on the blue button which reads: “Use our grave location search tool” (This will open a new tab where you can search for the deceased.)
- If you know the cemetery, you can select it. If not, you can just fill out the first and last name of the person you’re trying to locate.
- The results for that name are then displayed, alongside their date of birth, date of death, their age and where their remains are located.
Can’t Find a Grave Location in Brisbane?
Even though the Brisbane City Council maintains the records of people buried or cremated at the city’s cemeteries and crematoria, some burial registers are inaccurate or missing.
In saying that, someone’s resting place, if buried or cremated, should be displayed on their death certificate.
